Pico has announced the arrival of the Pico 4 Ultra in China. Pico claims that the VR headset outperforms the Quest 3 in several areas, including more RAM, improved passthrough resolution, and Wi-Fi 7 for better wireless connectivity. The Pico 4 Ultra, a refreshed version of the Pico 4, was unveiled in China as a competitive alternative to the Quest 3, with improvements in almost every aspect while maintaining an affordable price.
The Pico 4 Ultra offers features like 60 FPS spatial video playback and full compatibility with VR Chat’s motion trackers, setting it apart as a versatile, cost-effective alternative to high-end VR headsets like the Apple Vision Pro. The Pico 4 Ultra includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip, 12GB RAM, a 90Hz refresh rate, and improved cooling. Pico claims the device has a brighter display with 62% higher resolution.
The device can allegedly display up to 20 windows simultaneously in virtual reality, surpassing the Quest 3’s capability of 6. It also integrates mobile phone content directly into VR, eliminating the need for passthrough.
With Wi-Fi 7, the Pico 4 Ultra supports a higher data throughput of 1,000 Mbps, enhancing PC streaming with a 6K resolution and lower latency. The headset also supports AV1 codec for better streaming on slower PCs.
