One-Netbook has announced the OneXGPU 2, the successor to the eGPU product unveiled last year. Additionally, the next eGPU will be equipped with AMD’s yet to be officially announced Radeon RX 7800M GPU. External GPUs are particularly beneficial for video editing and 3D rendering on laptops that lack a dedicated GPU or have a weaker internal GPU. They can also offer enhanced performance for users on laptops or handheld gaming devices, especially for games with heavy graphic effects. You can check out the older OneXGPU version on this Youtube review,
The effectiveness of an external GPU depends on matching it with a compatible CPU and ensuring the Oculink / Thunderbolt connection isn’t a bottleneck. Oculink offers higher bandwidth compared to USB 4 or Thunderbolt 4, making it ideal for connecting to external GPUs, especially in portable gaming devices. External GPUs are typically more suitable for Windows devices with Thunderbolt support. They are less compatible with Apple’s M1 and M2 MacBooks due to different hardware architectures.
OneXGPU 2 will include the following :
AMD Radeon RX 7800M “RDNA 3”.
Active cooling will provide efficient cooling with RGB lighting
Multiple ports, including OCULINK, HDMI, DP, USB (Type-A and Type-C), and LA.
PCIe M.2 SSD compatibility will improve performance and convenience of data storage.
The OnexGPU 2 will allow users to keep a lightweight, portable laptop for travel while still having high performance at home. It also offer long-term upgrade options, as users can replace the eGPU without needing to replace the entire device. The OneXGPU 2 provides a PC experience in a handheld form. This flexibility will allows users to switch seamlessly between gaming, streaming, and productivity tasks, making it a versatile tool for various needs. The new model should be available soon so keep an eye on the OnexGPU Amazon page for the new release.
