Gamescom 2024 saw Microsoft unveil the new Xbox console options which were introduced earlier this year at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. Each model has apparently been designed to cater to different gaming needs and preferences. From the Xbox Series X to the more affordable Xbox Series S model.
At last years Gamescom 2023, Xbox CEO, Phil Spencer was asked if there was any news on a mid-gen refresh for current-gen consoles, to which he replied “No,” before adding that “we’re at the end of the beginning” of the console generation for Xbox Series X|S and that the team is focused on increasing Xbox Series S storage capacity.
Spencer stated there are no plans for a mid-generation console refresh, citing the challenges of launching the current generation during the COVID-19 pandemic. He emphasised that Xbox are focusing on maximizing the potential of its existing hardware. The three newest editions to the Xbox hardware portfolio are as follows:
Xbox Series X – 1TB Digital Edition: This edition includes 1TB of storage, is all-digital, and will be available in Robot White.
Xbox Series S – 1TB: This model also has 1TB of storage and will be available in Robot White.
Xbox Series X – 2TB Galaxy Black Special model: This model comes with 2TB of storage and comes with a distinct design and a matching Xbox Wireless controller.
Xbox announced that “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” will release on December 9, 2024, on Xbox, PC, and Game Pass, with a PlayStation 5 version coming in Spring 2025. The timing of this announcement raised concerns about its impact on Xbox sales and exclusivity strategy.
