Huawei’s first gaming computer, the Matebook GT 14, features an external GPU developed in collaboration with French/Chinese corporation WIKO. Due to US restrictions, Huawei can’t use Nvidia GPUs, so it has developed its own external GPU module resembling a massive hard drive. Huawei’s decision to combine their smart laptop with an external GPU system represents a growing computing trend, allowing customers to boost their device’s performance without committing to a large gaming setup.
In collaboration with WIKO, Huawei has developed this proprietary eGPU that enhances the laptop’s graphical performance. The eGPU is designed to house a high-end graphics card, providing desktop-level graphics performance. The eGPU connects via a Thunderbolt 4 port, ensuring minimal latency and high data transfer speeds. The external GPU, named High GT Cube, contains a Radeon RX 7600 MXD card, connects via USB-C, and includes display ports and an HDMI port. It enhances the computer’s performance significantly while making the laptop lighter but requiring additional equipment to be carried.
The Matebook GT 14 has a 14.2-inch OLED screen with a 2880×1920 resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, and 1,000 nits peak brightness. It is available with Intel Core Ultra 5, 7, and 9 processors, up to 32GB of RAM, and up to 2TB of storage. The laptop comes in either a Moonlight Silver or Space Gray colour style, it also features a large cooling system and a distinctive illuminated Huawei logo. Specs for the Matebook GT 14 include:
14.2-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen
