After years of study, testing, and collaboration with gamers with disabilities and accessibility specialists, Xbox has created the Adaptive Joystick, a wired companion to Xbox controllers intended exclusively for players with limited mobility.
It has four button inputs on the front, a conventional Xbox thumbstick, and two additional buttons that correspond to the bumper and trigger placement on a typical controller. All of these buttons are customisable, allowing you to play in the method that feels most natural to you.
The Xbox Adaptive Joystick’s adaptability enables users to seamlessly integrate the controller into existing gaming setups so that it can be controlled with one hand, placed on tabletops, or used with non hand body parts. There are several methods to play, including:
Connect to the Xbox adaptable Controller for a fully adaptable experience.
Connect it straight to a console or PC and use another controller for menu navigation and Nexus button functions. Alternatively, you can play solo or with another player by connecting the Adaptive Joystick to an Xbox controller via Xbox Controller Assist.
The Xbox Accessories app allows you to customise your controller by remapping buttons, creating several profiles, and switching between them.
The joystick will come in accessible packaging. The cardboard box opens smoothly with one hand, there is enough space around the goods for simple removal, and the cable does not have any twist ties.
The Xbox Adaptive Joystick will be available in select Xbox markets worldwide beginning in early 2025 and will be offered exclusively through the Microsoft Store for $29.99 USD. For further information, please visit Xbox.com.
