Valve Steam OS to leverage Asus ROG Ally

ROG Ally X

You may soon be able to turn the Asus ROG Ally into a Steam enabled device. Valve, the creators of the wildly successful Steam Deck handheld gaming console, confirmed plans to bring their SteamOS to the ROG Ally. This exciting news promises to transform the device into a genuine Steam machine, offering a streamlined gaming experience tailored for third party handheld devices.

This could be a strategic move by Valve to leverage higher end hardware provided by a third party and possibly focus on its game delivery platform. Asus have larger production resources and the ability to release hardware with combatible upgrades faster than Valve. Asus has recently launched the ROG Ally X with hardware capable of supporting high-performance gaming.

One of the key benefits of Steam Deck OS support is the enhanced compatibility with a wide range of games. Steam’s library includes thousands of titles, from indie gems to blockbuster hits. With the Steam Deck OS enabled, non Steam Deck device users could easily access these games without needing to rely on native support or third-party solutions.

Steam OS on Windows

Speaking with The Verge, Valve designer Lawrence Yang stated that the business aims to allow competitors portable gaming PCs to use its Linux-based operating system. Valve once envisaged that each PC manufacturer could have their own PC game console that runs the company’s Linux-based SteamOS. In the past Valve has pledged to turn Steam Decks into dual-booting Windows computers, allowing you to switch between the two operating systems at will.

Valve designer Lawrence Yang has said : ” In terms of Windows, we are preparing to release the remaining Windows drivers for Steam Deck OLED (you may have seen that we are prepping firmware for the Bluetooth driver). There is no change on the timeline for dual boot support; it is still a priority, but we haven’t been able to address it yet.”

New ROG Ally X

The latest version of the ROG Ally device features a more powerful processor and a higher-refresh-rate display, which would ensure smooth gameplay and vibrant visuals for Steam games. The new ROG Ally X device also includes customisable controls and a variety of connectivity options, that could further enhanc the Steam gaming experience. With the addition of Steam Deck OS, users could leverage this new hardware to its fullest potential, enjoying a wide range of games with impressive performance.

It’s important to note that this is still a developing story. While Valve’s confirmation is exciting, the final product and its performance remain to be seen. Nevertheless, the prospect of a SteamOS-powered ROG Ally is undeniably enticing.
